The USB-eLicenser (formerly "Steinberg Key") is a copy protection plug (also called a "dongle") that is required to operate Steinberg software. The USB-eLicenser is included with the full versions of the host applications Cubase, Nuendo and WaveLab. For updates and VST instruments, it must be purchased separately if you do not yet own a USB-eLicenser/Steinberg Key.The USB-eLicenser is actually a small computer on which your Steinberg software licenses are stored. It is connected to the USB port of your audio computer. All current Steinberg products protected with a copy protection plug use the same type of dongle and it is possible to store more than one licence on a USB-eLicenser. Furthermore, licences can be transferred between USB-eLicensers (within certain limits). This is useful if you want to sell a certain software, for example
  • Only one dongle is needed for all Steinberg products
  • Price advantage by eliminating the additional dongle for VST instruments
  • Easy access to fully featured demo versions of Steinberg's most important applications
  • Detailed information on all current Steinberg products on CD-ROM
