Berlin, Potsdamer Str. 96. Where the Wintergarten has its home today, the Quartier Latin resided in the 70s and 80s, one of the most famous music shops in West Berlin. Udo Lindenberg, Nina Hagen, Die 3 Tornados, Die Ärzte or Herbert Grönemeyer had their first gigs here. Champion Jack Dupree, Lok Kreuzberg, Grobschnitt and Kraan became cult here, there were free jazz and summer jazz festivals, political rock and folk, rock competitions and theatre - the Berlin scene was in and out. The Quartier Latin was a musicians' meeting place and favourite stage, a neighbourhood pub and a family business - it was impossible to imagine the cultural life of the Wall city without it.Marco Saß and Henry Steinhau have collected memories, interviews and anecdotes from musicians and participants as well as photos, programmes, posters and tickets. On more than 350 richly illustrated pages, they revive the two-decade history of the legendary music shop. An authentic work that awakens memories and gives insight into the feeling of the times.
