The Big Harmonica Songbook features two hundred popular and rare folk songs from America and European America. Scandinavian dances, Russian folk music, Italian tarantellas, Irish folk and Yiddish music take the harmonica back to its European roots. Country & Western, bluegrass and old-time tunes, blues, ragtime, and Latin music celebrate the instrument's development and success in the Americas. Stylistically and culturally, this book covers a wide range. Nevertheless, each of the 200 tunes has been specifically selected for its playability on the harmonica. Some bluegrass and blues originals by the author, complete with written-out solos, are also included.
Included with this book are recordings that you can download online to play along with. Each song comes in two versions, a harmonica version and an accompaniment track with other instruments that you can use if you can play the piece. The songs are divided into three levels: easy, intermediate, and advanced. Although all of the songs are recorded with the C major harmonica, many pieces are typically played on the harmonica in G major, A minor, D minor, or F major. Since this book shows how to play in different positions, you can eventually learn to play all 200 songs in this book with the C harmonica alone.
