The HDSPe AES is a short PCI Express card with AES/EBU interfaces. It provides eight AES/EBU inputs (16 channels) and eight outputs (16 channels) at 192 kHz. Two MIDI I/O ports, word clock I/O, and the optionally available TCO module for synchronisation to LTC and video complete the equipment. The HDSPe AES is RME's response to requests from professional users for an AES-based solution in typical RME quality and with typical RME features - the optimal complete solution for professional users in broadcast, TV, theatre, stage/PA - and of course in professional studios.The main board features word clock I/O and a 25-pin D-Sub connector, which provides 4 AES/EBU inputs (XLR-F) and 4 AES outputs (XLR-M) via a standard digital breakout cable (Tascam pinout). The word clock input is galvanically isolated by a transformer, and processes single, double or quad speed signals fully automatically. The main board is already fully functional as an 8-channel I/O solution. On the separate expansion board there is a second D-Sub connector for channels 9 to 16, as well as the connector for the MIDI breakout cable, which has 2 complete MIDI inputs and outputs (4 DIN sockets). The expansion board only requires a free slot on the cabinet, but no PCI Express slot.A PCI variant (HDSP AES-32) is available.The HDSPe AES has a whole range of sophisticated features and special characteristics. Thus, the AES-32 offers exceptional monitoring capabilities. Up to 8 fully independent stereo submixes are possible.Copy/paste of routings, ganging and group-based working with faders, as well as the extraordinary matrix window, transform the HDSPe AES into a powerful and easy-to-use redistributor, patchbay, router, converter and splitter. The hardware mixer is fully remote controllable via MIDI. In addition, the hardware calculates RMS and peak level meters for all 48 audio channels, with hardly any measurable CPU load.The well-known Time Code Option (TCO) of the Hammerfall DSP series for synchronisation to LTC and video can also be used with the HDSPe AES. Thanks to SteadyClock(TM), the card not only extracts absolute position information from these signals, but also a very low jitter word clock.RME uses a configuration memory for the most important settings of the card. Instead of operating in a default mode from the moment the computer is switched on until the driver is loaded, the HDSPe AES activates the last used sample rate, master/slave configuration and AES format immediately on power-up. This eliminates noise and problems in the clock network, even when the computer is switched on or rebooted.An optional external breakout box in 19" inch format is available, with an innovative design that makes its XLR connectors available either at the front or rear of the rack. BOB-32 features D-Sub connectors with Tascam and Yamaha pinouts, and can therefore also be used with other devices as a digital rack breakout box.
