Module A-163 is a voltage-controlled audio frequency divider.

The audio input signal (preferably the square wave signal of a VCO) is divided by an integer factor N (N = 1, 2, 3, 4 ... to 32) in its frequency. The output waveform is a square wave. The divider factor N can be set manually and can be modulated dynamically via a control input with attenuator (e.g. LFO, ADSR, Random, MIDI-to-CV, Theremin, Light-to-CV, Sequencer).

The control input is designed as a polariser, i.e. the divider factor can be modulated upwards or downwards from the manually set value. In contrast to the A-115, where the divider factors are fixed at 2,4,8,16, the divider factor of the A-163 can be set to any integer by means of a control voltage (but only 1 output). In contrast to the A-113, the divider factor is voltage controlled and the output signal is square wave (the A-113 has 4 serrated outputs with 4 adjustable, but not voltage controllable frequency dividers).

&Uml;via a jumper on the underside of the PCB, you can choose whether the module is DC coupled (jumper set) or AC coupled (jumper removed). For the division of slow signals outside the audio range (e.g. clock, trigger, gate, square wave output of an LFO) the module must be operated DC-coupled. For audio signals, the AC-coupled mode is recommended.
