The YDP-S55 features a piano sound sampled from Yamaha's high-end CFX concert grand piano - a renowned piano that combines brilliant highs and powerful, resonant bass in a superbly expressive sound.
The YDP-S55 has the same individual sound - from the low to the high keys - full of brilliance and rich in colorful harmonic content. It gives you exceptional expressiveness and nuance that is authentic to both your daily practice and your most emotional performances.
With an 88-key piano action, the GH3 (Graded Hammer 3) keyboard mimics the touch of an acoustic piano, from a naturally heavy feel on the lower keys to a lighter touch in the upper octaves. The GH3 keyboard provides the functionality and feel of a grand piano-style keyboard, allowing for fast repetition and authentic expressive control. In addition, there is a half-position damper function that authentically replicates the damper action of a grand piano, providing a wide range of expressive variations.
One fascination of the grand piano is the distinctive resonance created by the vibration of the entire instrument. The YDP-S55 reproduces this powerful resonance effect through a breakthrough technology called Virtual Resonance Modeling Lite (VRM Lite). VRM Lite creates a varied sound by simulating the complex resonances that occur when the vibrations of the strings are transmitted to the soundboard and other strings. This occurs according to the timing and intensity of playing on the keyboard and pedals.
In addition to authentic grand piano sounds, the YDP-S55 also features various other instruments with a total of 10 sounds - including electric piano, organ, vibraphone and strings.
The YDP-S55 also features 353 built-in songs, including 50 famous classical ones, and 303 comprehensive exercises from famous methods such as those of Beyer, Burgmüller, Czerny and Hanon. The instrument is also compatible with Yamaha's free Smart Pianist app - simply download it to your smart device and connect it to the instrument*.
With the Smart Pianist app, you can easily operate the instrument's various voice functions, allowing you to access the note display of both internal and external songs. It also has a comprehensive Piano Room function that lets you adjust the sound quality and resonance settings for the piano sound to suit your needs.

The YDP-S55 uses new technology that optimally adjusts the sound balance according to the volume you choose, for exceptionally natural sound that's easy on your ears, even when you're playing for a long time.
