The company Mod Devices, owned by the Brazilian and Berliner-by-choice Gianfranco Ceccolini, is breaking new ground in the multi-effects sector.
What seems simple and almost banal here turns out to be a device that could be trend-setting without exaggeration. DUO contains several classes of equipment in one housing. It can be used as a normal guitar multi, it is a sound generator that plays sounds via entered midi notes and it even works as a step sequencer. In fact, under the solid metal lid is a small but immensely powerful computer that, when fed with the necessary plug-ins, does everything you ask of it. This marvel can be edited on any common computer, and any browser can be used as an editor, because the DUO has the graphically successful operating system on board, in the way that some people might be familiar with from wireless routers and similar devices. Enter the IP address and off you go.
The plug-ins can be found on the Internet. The interface is LV2, a Linux-based open source protocol, as we know it as VST or AU for Steinberg or Logic, but open and therefore free of charge. And it can be integrated into any suitable DAW environment.
The sound is as good as the available effects and applications, and there are plenty of them on the World Wide Web.
Once you have configured the device according to your wishes, it can be used like any other multi-effects device on the Bühne. If the two footswitches are not enough, you can bring back your old midi bar.
A test station is currently in the flagship store in Berlin. It's worth a try!
