Lab4Music Sipario

Advanced MIDI Router
1
OS 4.01 UpdateWith OS 4.01, the functionality of the Italian Advanced MIDI Router is considerably extended. Especially the possibility to send SysEx strings in addition to program changes and the generation and transmission of a MIDI clock expand the range of use considerably. The free update is now available on the Lab4Music website.

The SIPARIO from the Italian company Lab4Music is a MIDI router that is especially aimed at live keyboardists who want to control their entire setup from one central device. The SIPARIO (Italian word for curtain) is housed in a small, sturdy metal case in the shape of a desk and can therefore be placed on any keyboard. The large touch display immediately catches the eye, next to it is the multifunctional rotary control with a push function for confirming the entered values, as well as an exit button and the so-called fun button, which also serves as a panic button.

On the back of the SIPARIO there are 2 MIDI In and MIDI Out, 2 USB ports (for power supply and for connection to a computer), as well as a pedal input. Thus, 2 keyboards or MIDI controllers can be connected as input devices, and 2 for receiving data (plus more via their MIDI Thru sockets). In addition, the virtual instruments installed in the computer can be controlled via USB. With the help of the touch display and the multifunctional controller, up to 40 scenes can be programmed, each of which can contain up to 30 performances, which in turn contain up to 8 settings for the connected devices. All important MIDI functions (input and output, MIDI channel, programme change, keyboard zone, volume, pitch control, aftertouch) as well as controller data are taken into account, and different velocity curves can also be set.

This way, the SIPARIO can control all sounds of the connected devices for a complete live gig by assigning the scenes to the individual song titles, for example. An additional helpful feature is the possibility of naming the scenes and performances (e.g. with song titles) or displaying them with icons of various instruments.
