The American Dream series is named after the place where the history of Taylor Guitars began. American Dream Guitars is where Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug met and developed the idea for Taylor Guitars. The American Dream series combines the know-how of Taylor guitars of today with Bob Taylor's and Kurt Listug's ideals of yesteryear. The result is a new series of solid guitars, made in the USA at a very attractive price.

The AD17e Blacktop comes with Ovangkol back and sides. Ovangkol has the warmth and brilliance of rosewood, but is more prominent in the mids, giving it a warmer sound than rosewood. Together with the sitka spruce top you get silvery highs paired with a lot of thrust in the bass. The V-bracing gives the guitar a longer sustain, improved intonation and more volume. From the Builders Edition guitars, the AD17e Blacktop gets Chamfered Edges, rounded edges for a more comfortable playing feel. The Expression System 2 pickup, developed by Taylor Guitars, ensures a good, reinforced tone.
