Al Dronge, the father of DR Managing Director Mark Dronge and founder of Guild Guitars, had always wanted to add string manufacturing to his business, but this never happened due to his tragic and untimely death in an accident. His son followed his advice in 1989 when he founded DR Strings with the aim of reintroducing high-quality, hand-wound strings to the market. DR employees undergo at least half a year of training to get the right feel for winding strings, and each set is checked several times during production and packaging to ensure that only the highest quality leaves the factory. Considering that DR strings are developed by and with musicians, it should be clear that they do not have to hide from the competition.

This also applies to DR's Hi Beam series. The stainless steel winding of these strings is wound under tension and very slowly, resulting in a tight winding that gives the strings a high degree of brilliance and durability. The material used is gentle on the fret. Due to the way they are made, Hi Beams are very flexible and astonishingly well-balanced in sound, which is why they are also played by professional musicians such as Marcus Miller, Sting or Alex Webster. By the way: Hi Beams are suitable for scales up to 960 mm, so they are also ideal for extra-long scales.
