Tech Talk: Those of you who are familiar with the history of DiMarzio will have noticed the similarity to the old MegaDrive, but the concept is completely different. The installation orientation makes a clear difference in sound, especially with overdriven amps: if the coil is installed with the continuous blade towards the bridge, the sound is somewhat richer and more defined. DiMarzio recommends this orientation for thick strings and lower tuned guitars. When the coil with the adjustable polepieces faces the bridge, the sound is warmer and a touch louder. In DiMarzio`s opinion, this orientation is best suited for standard tunings and solo oriented playing. Each coil has a distinctive sound character. Accordingly, the two split sounds sound different, while the parallel humbucker provides a third clean and high-pitched sound.
