It is not that difficult to build a vintage single coil that sounds clear and bright, but it is much more complicated when the high strings from the 12th fret on should still sound warm and full. The True Velvet succeeds in this because the coil has been tuned to a very specific frequency spectrum. This sounds bright but not dull. DiMarzio combines this with a staggered magnet that specifically promotes the balance of the strings among each other and thus provides great clarity even with full chords. The bridge position model is slightly warmer and louder than the neck and middle versions, so that the individual switch positions sound smooth and natural.

Tech Talk: The True Velvet is a further development of the Blue Velvet series. DiMarzio has improved the basic frequency response in the main aspects of a vintage single coil tone.

The best PUs in this genre emphasise that sweet spot where the tone is bright, but not dead. The True Velvet is tuned to this point, making it a good choice for guitarists of many styles. From the clear country sound to the snotty Texas blues.
