The Evolution series neck and bridge pickups are the result of a two-year development phase to realise the sound ideas of a very demanding guitarist in terms of his guitar sound: Steve Vai and his Ibanez Jems. Both pickups were designed for maximum punch and power.

The neck pickup sounds fat, powerful and loud. The bridge pickup sounds "tight", aggressive - and even louder. Both pickups use DiMarzio`s patented dual-resonance configuration and thus produce more harmonic overtones than conventional humbuckers. The Evolution pickups don`t sound too shabby and are certainly not for inexperienced guitarists. However, if you have some experience and a hot amp, you can make your sound burn. The Evolution pickups were originally designed specifically for live gigs. However, they add so much punch and definition to the sound that they are also great for recording: they cut through even the tightest mixes.

Recommended for: Bridge position of solid-body guitars.

Tech Talk: The Evolution bridge pickup is best suited for solo passages when the sound needs to be really cutting. Low notes come in very tight and the highs are reproduced very präsent, so that the pickup asserts itself in pretty much every situation. The Evolution was primarily designed for Steve's Ibanez Jems, but it can also add a lot more punch and definition to a Les Paul or similar glued neck guitar: even the deepest bass notes jump out of the amp naturally, while feedbacks with lots of harmonic overtones come naturally.
