Since the release of the first MXR product, the Phase 90, the pedals of the US manufacturer, which now belongs to Dunlop, have always stood for high manufacturing quality and thus robustness even in the hard touring routine as well as for first-class sound.

In the past, you had to make do with bi-amping if you wanted to have a distorted bass sound without the foundation falling by the wayside. With the MXR Bass Distortion this is no longer necessary; separate Dry and Wet controls offer direct control over the distorted and undistorted signal components. The Tone control only affects the distorted signal and doses the right amount of bite in the highs. How much distortion should be applied can be regulated by the Distortion control. The M85, developed by pedal guru Ryan Ratajski, offers two distortion modes with a silicon clipping diode distortion and an LED diode distortion; the former is aggressive and slightly compressed, the latter is more open and fuzzier (a little tip: if you want to go a little softer, try the M89). As usual with MXR, the pedal with its metal housing is first-class and absolutely roadworthy.
