Maroon 5, a now very successful pop band (multiple No. 1, Grammys, Gold, Platinum) needed a second guitarist years ago to take care of the fine tuning, and found him in 2001 with James Valantine. The artist is very versatile, funky riffs, virtuoso lead lines, jazzy stuff - everything seems to come effortlessly from his hand.Music Man took care of the musician and developed with him an instrument that suits his preferences. From the wood, ash with maple neck, the instrument produces plenty of harmonics, which suits the bard's staccato riffs. On the pickup side, we are dealing with a hermaphroditic solution. In the bridge position, there is a thoroughbred single coil under a humbucker-like metal cap, while in the neck position there is a double coil. The circuitry is active, which keeps hum within tolerable limits. Both controls are designed as push/push pots, one serves to split the neck PU, the other boosts the signal quite nicely.so much for the technical refinements. The Valentine is, in typical MusicMan fashion, a very comfortable instrument to play. Thanks to the restrained dimensions and the optimal ballance, long concerts (and rehearsals) can be completed without discomfort. A signature model should on the one hand reflect the playing habits and sound ideas of the artist, and on the other hand it should appeal to a broader audience. Once again, the manufacturer has succeeded with the Valentine.
