The version presented at Namm 2019 is therefore not a new invention. With a clever choice of wood, the designers circumvented the strict Cites requirements at the time, which have since been relaxed again for musical instruments. Up to now, ebony fingerboards were reserved for more expensive models because rosewood was simply cheaper. This has changed. The alder body retains the shape of RG models, without forgetting the typical Vai "monkey grip". DiMarzio pickups and the indestructible Edge tremolo make the current JEM a professional working instrument that almost deserves the term "classic".
