Fender's Thinline Teles, which came into vogue in the late 60s, were popular with country, blues and rock musicians alike. The most striking feature of this special class is its light weight, which makes it easy to survive long sessions. Thanks to the Tele-typical small headstock, head heaviness is not to be feared.
This model from the Customshop is characterised by great resonance and a lively response. Here, ash as a body wood undoubtedly shows its advantages. The neck is made of finest maple. Its profile, declared as a 52 "U", is surprisingly comfortable in the hand. Finger techniques with the thumb are effortless, even if the fingers are not as long as those of Jimi Hendrix.
A pair of pickups is used, of which the neck position in particular is worth mentioning. Here, the guitar maker has chosen a hand-wound, open Jazzmaster single coil, which brings very warm, strikingly harmonic frequencies to the ear. The 51 Nocaster in the bridge position delivers the typical Tele twang, as befits a "fiddle" of this design.
As so often, Fender's Custom Shop presents us with a top class instrument that is a lot of fun. And that's what you should expect in this price range.
