Few guitarists are as associated with the Stratocaster as Ritchie Blackmore. In the early years, he mainly played ES models. He even played one of his most famous solos, "Child in Time", with an ES-335. From 1970 at the latest, the master was almost only seen with the Strat. His style of playing, his creative compositions and his unmistakable tone have made him an immortal legend.
The signature model that Fender dedicated to the artist is modelled on his 74 Stratocaster, clearly recognisable by the large comp plate. Ritchie Blackmore was one of the first guitarists to use a so-called "scalloped" fingerboard, in which the sections between the frets were subsequently recessed. In this way, expressive vibratos can be produced just by pressing on the string. The pickup configuration is also special. Since the master never uses the middle pickup or one of the intermediate positions, there is only a dummy in this place so as not to disturb the typical Strat look. Blackmore, like hardly any other guitarist, was regarded throughout his life as an eccentric, not very likeable. In an interview he once said that people would leave him alone and he could choose his friends. He was right!
