Fender's Strats and Teles from the early 60s are today considered the best that came out of the Californian factory. Five-figure resale prices are not uncommon. For decades, Fender's Custumshop has made it its business to produce replicas of the old originals that certainly don't need to shy away from comparison.
The model at hand knows how to please with a lively attack with a creamy finish, a sound that is passed on to the amp by the pickup pair with a slight midrange emphasis. The neck is slimmer than on the 50s models and the rosewood fingerboard does the rest for a pleasant playing feel.
The Custom Shop wouldn't be the Custom Shop if it didn't also produce variations to meet special tastes. The Champagne-Sparkle finish exudes its own charm and the Relic treatment can only be described as successful. The 61 Tele is an attractive stage guitar and a professional tool for the studio in equal measure.
