The Telecaster Thinline first debuted in July 1968 and the semi-hollow design was developed to make lightweight instruments out of heavy ash. The souped-up second-generation Telecaster Thinline was redesigned in late 1971 around a pair of wide-range humbucker pickups mounted on a reshaped, curvy pearloid pickguard. It had its first full year of production in 1972. Remarkably, it was Fender's first six-string with humbuckers and the first Tele with six adjustable bridge strings. The American Vintage II 1972 Telecaster Thinline reproduces the basic tone and feel of the original. The neck, characterised by the manufacturer as a "C" profile, seems very supple in practice. In combination with the comparatively small fingerboard radius, this results in a pleasant vintage feeling that turns into playing comfort the longer you hold the model in your hand.
Thus, the model is far more than just a way of playing traditional designs, but a pleasantly independent instrument.
