The Starfire IV is by design a typical semi-hollow as we know it since the 50s. The laminated mahogany body in combination with a glued-in neck of the same wood brings an emphasis of the low-mids into the sound, which ultimately results in a feeling of warmth. Nevertheless, the typical nasal overtone range of the design remains. The model resonates well and also produces powerful resonances when played dry.
The substantial foundation is implemented by two LB-1 "Little Buckers". These smaller versions of traditional humbuckers were first offered in 1962 as an upgrade to the single coils of the time, producing slightly more overtones than the legendary PAFs. Resistance and inductance are roughly between that of a single coil and a typical dual coil, which contributes to the airiness of the LB-1 without affecting its warmth;
