Besides the exalted design, which by the way is inherent in almost all Gretsch electric guitars, the manufacturer's aim with the G2655 was to provide a guitar with qualities in the higher gain range without foregoing the tonal characteristics of a pure hollow body. Responsible for the comfortable handling with regard to stronger distortions is a powerful sustain block made of spruce, which makes the instrument sound quieter when played dry, but gives it some of the vibration characteristics of a solid body. Thus, the tone develops quite powerfully at the amplifier with sustained sustain, but with the somewhat throaty timbre in the overtone range that is typical for a semi-acoustic. The G2655 doesn't necessarily feel like a semi resonance, but is more in line with the LP-style sisters in terms of handling. It represents the best of both worlds and should appeal to traditionalists and modern guitarists alike.
