After presenting the community with the Ironball Head Engl, a mini top with considerable live qualities, the German manufacturer presented a combo version at Namm 2018 that really makes sense with the installed Vintage 30 speaker. It was precisely this English speaker that helped redefine tube sound for guitar.Two channels, which can be boosted via an additional switch, share a 3-band EQ plus presence control. A power soak, which, if desired, reduces the power from 20 to 1 watt or switches off the speaker output completely, and a serial effects path are part of the equipment. The Ironball becomes an opulent complete package if you consider the balanced line out, digital reverb and headphone out.The name "Ironball" naturally conjures up associations with everything that has to do with metal, but the Ironball can also score points with clean sounds, an area that has always been close to the heart of Engl's creative minds. Sensitive and delicate, the amp reacts to playing nuances, a plus for expressive playing. With increased output on the guitar, slight, very harmonic distortions occur in the overtones, so that you think you can hear the breathing of the tubes.The distortion range presents itself no less versatile. The distortion range is no less versatile: from airy chords to heavy heavy riffs to convincing lead lines, all facets are mastered without any problems.We are used to the rock-solid manufacturing Made in Germany from Engl and it doesn't really need to be mentioned separately.
