ESH Various 5 Blue Satin
Shortly after its founding in 1987 by three bassists, the German bass manufacturer ESH was heavily involved in the then still young boutique boom. Mr. Erhardt, Mr. Sonntag and Mr. Hövelmann were simply not satisfied with the quality of the basses available at that time, so they developed their own concept of sound and quality, which was based on tonal flexibility in combination with piezo pickups from the very beginning. Even decades later, this claim is still evident in this instrument.
The Various, the entry-level model in the Esh class, relies on a simple, straightforward design, exquisite pickups, high-quality hardware and a masterful finish. The Various uses an innovative neck attachment, the special „Semi-Through Neck“. In the literature, this constructive connection is also called a „Semi-Through Neck“. The advantages of a through neck (sustain and stability) are combined in this way with the sound characteristics of a bolt-on neck (fast response). This increases the internal vibration energy of the instrument; because of the high effort, only very few manufacturers use this method.
The Various is equipped with an active EMG "MM "pickup as well as individual piezo elements under the tailpieces. The patented "Esh-Tronic"-system lets the player choose between four sound presets that combine the pickups and piezos in different ways and conjure up a true sound variety. Even greats like Pete Steele from Type 0 Negative and jazz bassist Peter Sonntag have been convinced of this.
