The mahogany body of the D-1 produces a full-bodied foundation, while the maple neck in combination with an ebony fingerboard provides radiant highs and growling mids. The idea of a practical rock bass was refined with an active circuit and an EMG humbucker, which makes the sound thrive a little in the direction of StingRay, not exactly the worst reference.
In terms of playability and quality, there is nothing to complain about. The neck sits firmly in the joint, the frets are cleanly dressed. The fingerboard in particular is pleasing with its supple feel. Only a few years ago, ebony was mostly found on much more expensive instruments. The quarrels about Cites regulations in the past have corrected some things.
