The GSR200 is one of the cheaper electric bass models in the manufacturer's portfolio and is clearly aimed at beginners on the instrument. It is based on a body made of agathis, firmly bolted to a maple neck with a very narrow profile typical for Soundgear, ideal for small and/or inexperienced hands and with its matt satin finish it is easy to play. The two single-coils in P/J configuration provide a wiry, mid-range sound at the bridge and a round and growly sound at the neck, which can be further processed with the „Phat II“-active tone control, which continuously adds a bass and treble boost to the sound. The tuning machines and the bridges are, as is understandable in this price range, not branded goods, but they do their job just as impeccably as the instrument as a whole is in terms of quality.
