Walter Höfner had developed the 500/ 1 bass in 1955 as the company's first bass model. The classical violin was the inspiration for the design, as this made the construction of the new basses easier for the luthiers working in the company. The body is made of a spruce top and flamed maple sides and back, just like a violin, and is glued to a maple neck. Both the body and the neck are adorned with a multi-layer binding, which, together with the black finish, visually enhances the bass significantly. Soundwise the bass is a typical 500/ 1, warm, round, with a proper shot of double bass and thanks to the short scale length of about 76 cm also very fat. The bass is a unique piece, which was designed and built especially for Just Music.
