Originally conceived by Fender as an alternative to the much more famous Precision Bass, which was about a decade older, in terms of sound variety, playability and ergonomics, the Fender Jazz Bass was to become one of the two most popular bass models in the history of electrified stringed instruments after its market launch in 1960. Since the competition never sleeps and Fender is keen to constantly adapt the product range to the needs of the time, the time-honoured Jazz Bass has undergone an all-round update in the course of the American Pro series.

Fender's Posiflex system, a graphite reinforcement, stiffens and stabilises the single-strip maple neck. This is kept in a modern C-profile and is therefore slim enough to ensure first-class playability together with the matt satin lacquer finish on the back of the neck. This is supported by the 20 very well dressed „Narrow Tall“frets, which are narrower and higher than medium jumbo frets for easier bending and more precise intonation. The tuners have tapered axles and the bridge is a HiMass bridge that allows the strings to be fed through either the body or the bridge.

The good tone is provided by two V-Mod single coils, newly developed by Fender pickup specialist Michael Bump, which deliver the familiar and popular Fender Jazz Bass sounds, warm and powerful in the case of the neck pickup and gnarly and throaty in the bridge position. The pickups may have a slightly lower output than other Fender Jazz Bass single coils, but they deliver a characterful, overtone-rich sound in any situation that comes through in the mix. The bass comes with a high-quality hard shell case from the same company.
