The Fender Jazz Bass was introduced in 1960 and is still one of the milestones in the history of electrically amplified basses. It was seen as an alternative to the then already ten-year-old, very successful Precision bass from the same company and soon outstripped its older brother with its tonal possibilities and comfortable playability. Fender's Custom Shop makes instruments that reflect the spirit of the pioneering era, sometimes distinguished by a modern feature or two.
The '64 Journeyman is close to the original. Even the pickup and bridge cover made of sheet metal, which was part of the scope of delivery at the time, does not have to be dispensed with. Of course, bassists often found the parts to be a hindrance to modern playing techniques and simply unscrewed them. Due to its construction, this type of instrument is considered an all-rounder that can handle almost any genre without any problems. The vintage pickups give off a warm basic tone, which can change to a bassy growl depending on the setting. The finish is medium aged, but the neck has been spared to some extent. The surface is silky to the touch and conveys exactly the feeling for which the Jazz bass was famous.
A case with extensive accessories is a matter of course for instruments from the custom shop.
