D'Angelico had already developed into one of the most important US manufacturers of archtop guitars during the lifetime of its founder John D'Angelico. After the death of John D'Angelico in 1964, his former apprentice Jimmy D'Aquisto took over the business and the equipment and started to build his own guitars, from the 1970s and after a move also under his own name. At this point at the latest, D’Angelico's legacy became quiet, but as a result of a Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibition on Italian-American instrument makers in 2011, interest in D’Angelico instruments grew again to such an extent that the brand was rebuilt and quickly gained popularity.

This bass is a good example of D’Angelico's high quality work, with its deep blue translucent finish on beautiful figured maple and three-ply white binding around the body and fingerboard. The Art Déco design and the chrome finish of the hardware round off the tasteful appearance of the instrument. But the sound is not neglected either, thanks to the two humbuckers developed by D’Angelico and adjustable via passive electronics, while the hollow body construction provides acoustic warmth.

A high-quality gig bag is also included in the scope of delivery, making the D’Angelico Premier Bass an ideal instrument in the mid-price range for tone-conscious musicians.
