GALLIEN KRUEGER

Gallien Krueger Plex

Bass Preamp / Pedal
Since Rob Gallien impressed a certain Carlos Santana so much with a self-built amplifier in his local music shop in 1968 that he immediately bought the device for his bass player and later took it with him to his gig at Woodstock, Gallien Krueger has helped make history as far as amplification of the low-frequency guild is concerned. In fact, Gallien contributed a lot to what seems to be taken for granted in bass amplification today: first bass amp with contour control, first bass amp with DI output, first 1000-watt bass amp, etc. The PLEX preamp is a versatile preamp pedal for bass, which, in addition to the four-band tone control already known from Gallien Krueger, comes up with a series of filters that shape the sound even further. These can be called up via the EQ controls, which also function as buttons. For example, the bass/bump control raises or lowers the bass, pressing the control switches the bump option on or to the next bump setting, activating additional boosts in the bass range. A number of voicing options are also available for the integrated overdrive effect. Gallien Krueger has also provided the PLEX with a compressor with adjustable level, threshold, ratio, attack and release values. Both the overdrive section and the compressor are footswitchable. For recordings and performances, the PLEX has both a USB port and a D.I. output, for practice purposes a headphone jack and an aux input for connecting an additional sound source. An effects loop-in and a chromatic tuner round off the functional palette of the unit, which can be combined very well with the active cabinets from Gallien Krueger's MBP series. In pocketbook size and weighing less than one kilogram, the PLEX can be easily transported in any gig bag.
