Ampeg SVT-4 PRO Head
Two power amplifiers, each delivering 600 watts (on 2), are a statement. In mono bridge mode, 1200 watts at 4 are available, and that is real, analogue power amplifier performance. In times of tiny bass amplifiers with digital power amp technology, this must be emphasised, because which technology is to be preferred in terms of sound is ultimately up to the user.
However, sheer power is not the only feature of the SVT-4 PRO: in terms of sound, we are clearly in the upper class here. This is ensured on the one hand by the tube preamp, which is supplied by three 12AX7 tubes. In addition, the player has a wide range of sound processing options at his disposal, including a 9-band graphic EQ, a conventional 3-band EQ in the channel (5 centre frequencies can be selected) and the Ampeg-typical Ultra Low/High Boosts. Limiters to protect against unwanted distortion are also available, as is an adjustable compressor. All of this, of course, in a contemporary 19-quadrant format.
