Woodhorns

As one calls into the forest...

The French horn, or just horn, finds its place in orchestras, brass bands and chamber music. There are three different tunings. The horn in F, in Bb and F/Bb - also called double horn - and is the most common orchestral horn today. It is versatile in sound, higher than the trombone and lower than a trumpet. The French horn can be played sitting or standing. It is often held in the bell with the right hand, which is also used as a playing technique. Alternatively, a mute can be used. You can find a selection of French horns from Hoyer, Cerveny and Yamaha here.
